How to Fix HP Compaq nc6120 Graphic Driver (Video Controller) Problem on Windows 7

Are you among those who like to manually install drivers instead of the easy process of using a third party software which automatically searches for and install any missing driver on your computer? Most people really do not fancy the manual method of installing drivers on their computer but there are situations which make them have no other option than to resort to doing so. For example, when a computer is upgraded to a Windows version that is not supported by its hardware, it becomes difficult to automatically find and install the system drivers for the computer. This is exactly what a friend of mine encountered after he formatted a HP Compaq nc6120 and installed Windows 7 Operating system on it. After the installation, he realized that he could not install a Graphic Driver (Video Controller) and even after using a third party software, he still could not.

Today I want to show you guys how to manually install the Graphic Driver (Video Controller) for HP Compaq nc6120 after upgrading the computer to Windows 7. All you need to do is simply follow the easy steps as I have outlined below.

Installing HP Compaq nc6120 Video Controller Driver on Windows 7:

The first thing to do is download the Video Controller driver for HP Compaq nc6120 by visiting Once the download is complete, extract the content to a location on your computer that you will remember. If you try run the installation, you will get a message informing you that the Windows operating system version you have on the laptop is not supported. Just follow the step below to install it on the laptop without any issue;

  • Next go to Device Manager and expand Display Adapters.
  • Right click on the Standard VGA Adapter that is appearing there and then click on Update Driver.
  • Select “Browse my computer for driver software” from the pop-up page that will come up.
  • Locate the folder in which the downloaded driver has been extracted to by clicking on Browse and select it. Make sure you tick the box that read Include sub-folders.
  • Finally click on Next and patiently wait while the installation completes.

Once the installation completes, restart the laptop to further apply the changes that you have made to the computer. By doing this, the Standard VGA Adapter will be replaced by indicating that you have successfully installed the laptops graphic driver.

Note: The above process will only work for Windows 7, 32 bit.
